Structural Support Analysis for Rooftop Air Handling Units

Client: University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky

Paradigm provided Structural Engineering services – specifically structural support analysis – to determine the structural load of the Life Sciences Building (part of the Medical School/Hospital program) roof which housed three existing HVAC combination 30-Ton condenser and 12,000 CFM air handler units. Further design involved researching replacement units and thus determining the structural requirements for replacing the existing with the new. The procedure involved extensive analysis of the roof truss system, internal columns, and steel connections, weights of HVAC units (existing and future) and design of structural support bases for the new units. The project cost was $650,000.
